MOLLYMAWK at a glance
MOLLYMAWK psychometrics offers internet-delivered screening tools of basic skills and aptitudes for (prospective) pilots. Similar to well known language certificates like TOEFL or TOEIC a test taker buys a testing opportunity online and in advance. The tests then are taken under supervision at a certified MOLLYMAWK TestCenter. The test taker receives his/her test result in a PDF certificate immediately after the tests. Being the owner of these certificates allows a test taker to print and distribute his results as his/her own discretion.
MOLLYMAWK psychometrics is developed by Melina Rauch, Aviation Psychologist certified by the European Association for Aviation Psychology (EAAP). This project is inspired by more than ten years of experience in the development and implementation of tools for pilot selection at the German Aerospace Center (DLR). For decades DLR has set standards in the application of psychological evaluation methods and has successfully supported large flight operations and ATC organisations inside and outside Germany. MOLLYMAWK adresses smaller to medium size companies who look for flexibility in the administration of psychometric tools but at the same time demand highest quality.
MOLLYMAWK psychometrics is committed to meeting all formal quality criteria for professional psychometric tools: Objectivity; Reliability; Validity. Furthermore, we adhere to the International Test Commission's Guidelines on Computer-Based and Internet-Delivered Testing.
MOLLYMAWK psychometrics offers maximum fairness and transparency by providing original training material and detailed feedback after each training run. The performance level achieved in the final (supervised) test run is documented on a comprehensive certificate with a forgery proof verification code to guarantee authenticity.
MOLLYMAWK psychometrics is an ideal tool for a low-threshold first-stage evaluation of basic skills and aptitudes. At this moment the service offers two test packages, one aiming at English Language, Mathematical Reasoning, and Comprehension of Basic Scientific Concepts (test package 'Basic Skills'). These parameters are common elements of most test batteries for pilots and are especially useful for candidates with zero or little flight experience as they not only reflect the outlined knowledge but also adress motivational and cognitive aspects. The other set of tests includes Working Memory, Spatial Comprehension and Time Sharing (test package 'Basic Aptitudes'). These three tests aim at fundamental cognitive functions that evidently contribute to the success during flight training and in the job.
The subsequent assessment of task-relevant personality traits and social skills is another indispensable element of the evaluation process. Furthermore a work sample test should be included at a later stage of the selection process after individuals with significant deficiencies in basic skills and aptitudes have been identified and excluded from the candidate pool. For licensed pilots the optimum work sample would be a standardized assessment of technical and non-technical skills in a well designed simulator screening. For candidateswith zero or little flight experience predictive work sample tests can be developed using low-fidelity simulators.
If we can be of any help in your search for suitable methods and how to integrate them into a stringent selection procedure, please contact us. Helpful instructions for the design of such a procedure are outlined in the IATA's Guidance Material and Best Practices for Pilot Aptitude Testing.
By the way, 'mollymawk' refers to a group of albatross species, the most widespread being the black-browed albatross.
